SSID is a unique identifier (network name) used to establish and maintain wireless connectivity.
In this step, specify the SSID used on the access point/wireless router to use your printer wirelessly. SSIDs and security types of the available network are displayed on the list.
For information about the SSID, refer to the documentation provided with your access point/wireless router.
If the target network is not displayed, click Search Again to refresh the list.
If an unsupported security mode is set in your access point/wireless router, or if the access point is running in stealth mode, the SSID is not displayed.
When the access point is running in stealth mode, select the Enter Manually check box and enter the SSID directly.
If an SSID set in your access point/wireless router includes non-ASCII characters, the SSID cannot be displayed, either.
Infrastructure and Ad Hoc modes are wireless transmission methods.
• Infrastructure mode -- a mode that the printer and computer communicate through an access point/wireless router.
• Ad Hoc mode -- a mode that the printer and computer communicate directly with each other, without using an access point/wireless router.
Since wireless LAN transmissions are easily intercepted, we recommend you to encrypt communication to protect confidential information.
The supported security modes are as follows:
• WEP
• WPA-TKIP
• WPA-AES
Notes:
-- Ad Hoc mode supports WEP only.
-- Epson recommends WPA-AES, since transmission by WEP and WPA-TKIP can easily be cracked.
-- When WPA/WPA2 mixed mode (a mode which enables the transmission both by WPA-TKIP and WPA-AES) is set on the access point/wireless router, the security mode is displayed as WPA-AES on the list.
If you do not know which security mode to select, refer to the documentation provided with your access point.
